Yakima, WA – Yakima United FC is set to host Seattle Sounders Women vs Central Washington University Women’s Soccer on Saturday, May 9th at 2:30 PM PST.
This friendly game will be played at Marquette Stadium, home of Yakima United FC. Yakima United FC is excited to bring this level of Women’s soccer to the Yakima community. “I think this gives the youth of our community a chance to see a higher level of Women’s soccer right here at home. Many of our youth dream of playing soccer in college and on the professional level. Bringing these teams to our community can make these young players realize it is not just a dream, but can be a reality with dedication and hard work” said Yakima United FC GM, Joshua Vega.
Fans will also be able to see some EPLWA (Evergreen Premier League) action as the host, Yakima United FC take on the South Sound FC at 6:30 PM following the Women’s match. This game will be a regular season match for the Yakima United FC.
Tickets to the Seattle Sounders Women’s friendly match are $10.00, and the ticket will be good for both the Friendly match and the EPLWA match following.
The Seattle Sounders Women is an American women’s soccer team, founded in 2001. The team is a member of the United Soccer Leagues W-League, the second tier of women’s soccer in the United States, and as a club in the Western Division, they play against Colorado Rapids Women, Colorado Rush, LA Strikers, Pali Blues, Santa Clarita Blue Heat, and Bay Area Breeze. The Sounders play their home games at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila, Washington. The team’s colors are green and white.
The team was a sister organization of the men’s Seattle Sounders team, which played in the USL First Division. Following that team’s reorganization into the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer, the team’s ownership was taken over by Mike Jennings, owner of the United Soccer League franchise Tacoma Tide (Sounders U-23). In 2011, Cliff McElroy & Lane Smith of Datec Inc. became majority owners while Mike Jennings has maintained a minority stake. Head coach for the Sounders Women is Hubert Busby Jr.
The Evergreen Premier League is an elite adult men’s soccer league for college and post-college age players to feature their skills on hometown clubs throughout the state of Washington. The league’s mission is to cultivate “football club” culture while providing opportunities for coaches, owners, supporters, players and towns to enjoy the sport and all of the community-building it can bring. The EPLWA is a USASA Premier League awarded 4th Division USA status. The EPLWA is affiliated with the Washington State Adult Soccer Association, US Adult Soccer, US Soccer, the Washington State Referee Committee and FIFA. Players maintain amateur status.
